Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes

Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes is a popular joke shop that started as a small school business created by Fred and George Weasley in the fourth book. It opened its doors at Number 93 Diagon Alley in the summer of the sixth book, using Harry Potter's Triwizard Winnings as starting capital. Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes sells joke and trick items, useful novelties, and Defence Against the Dark Arts items.

Fred and George started using the name "Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes" in Goblet of Fire for mail orders. To run their own joke shop had always been their life's ambition, and this ambition was finally realized when Harry, a good friend of theirs, gave them his Triwizard Tournament winnings of a thousand Galleons. After an early departure from Hogwarts in Order of the Phoenix, the two Weasleys set up their shop in Diagon Alley, which quickly became a huge success.

Ron came to work with his brothers after a nasty bout of wizard chicken pox.

Mildred walks in and smiles as the portrait above her head insults her, she has been a repeat customer for years.

<Ron> Welcome Mildred!! it's been too long!

Oh thank you Ron, where is your brother?

<Ron> Oh, he is restocking the shelves. How may I help you? You are aware of the Hogwarts ban of WWW items right?

That is just for students, it says nothing of Professors. *giggles*

Mildred whispers what she needs to Ron as some young wizards walk in and he rushes to go get her order picked. He hands it to her in a brown parcel, Mildred pays and leaves.

Perpetua walks past the shop and mumbles something under her breath about filthy blood traitors. Her father nudges her and tells her to behave.

Annie and Emily walked into the joke shop and gazed in amazement at the products around them. There were the famous Skiving Snackboxes, Reusable Hangman sets, Patented Daydream Charms, fake wands, a variety of quills, Muggle magic tricks, Shield Hats, CLoaks and Gloves, Decoy Detonators and Instant Darkness Powder. Shelves of Love Potions had groups of girls hanging around reading the instructions aloud to their friends. Ten-Second Pimple Vanisher, Pygmy Puffs which are miniature Puffskeins and other products like Invisible Hats, Canary Creams and other edible items guaranteed for a laugh.

<Annie Cudgeon> 'Mummy never let me come in here. The first time my sisters got to, it was unsafe to move for the entire summer.'

<Emily Black> 'It's brilliant! Mum told me that stuff like this was a waste of money. But I think it's wonderful.'

The girls began to pull the most interesting things off the shelves and left the shop a while later, their pockets considerably heavy and their money bags rather lighter. A warning followed them as they left the shop, from the proprieter himself.

<George Weasley> 'Don't get caught with those at Hogwarts. The Nosebleed Nougat has been used once too often to skip class and now all our wacky and wonderful products have been banned.'

Caroline stood in the middle of the shop, trying to fight back tears. She couldn't believe that soon she'd have to leave behind this wonderful playground. This should have been an exciting time, to be starting at Hogwarts, but she had thought she'd be starting alone. But no, her mother was starting there as a teacher as well, and her aunt was Headmistress. She'd never have any freedom, never! They'd always be nagging and fussing and she'd be soooooooo embarassed. This gloomy mood made her snap at her mother when she came down to join her. Bella started to straighten Caroline's jacket but Caroline shrugged her off moodily as she made for the door, on her way to buy her school supplies. She didn't understand why she couldn't do this on her own...she'd wondered around Diagon Alley all her life, but her mother insisted on accompanying her in the name of tradition or something silly like that.
